Scanner Conflicts?

I have a HP Scanjet 5300c scanner that has be wonderful until I
installed a HP psc 1210xi 'All-in-One' printer-scanner-copier. Now
when I try to scan text on either scanner, the text is treated as if it
were a photo - that is- I am given the choice of assiging either JPG,
BMP, TIF, or PNG file extensions. And, if I try to fax the now-photoed
text, the fax doesn't recognize the file. I went to HP and downloaded
(72 MB!) of "updated" software for the 5300c and there is no
improvement. If I uninstall the 1210-'all-in-One, the Scanjet 5300c
works fine. HELP! We like the 1210 for the copy feature (my husband is
frightened of computers - but he feels comfortable using the 'copy'
machine feature of the 1210).
Any suggestions?

My suggestion is to remove the HP Scanjet 5300C from the computer that has
the HP psc 1210xi 'All-in-One'. Remove all of the software for the 5300C
also.

Install the HP Scanjet 5300C and all of the original software on a separate
computer. It is plain to see that the software for the 'All in one' broke
the software for the HP Scanjet 5300C.

I'd suggest contacting HP tech support. See this page:

for various means to contact them. You will want to tell them your
operating system too, WIndows XP, Macintosh OSX, what?
