Scanner and Camera wizard does not open and download photos

Susan

My scanner and camera wizard use to recognize my camera,
open when clicked on, and download photos. Now nothing
happens when I click on the Scanner and Camera Wizard. The
other "removable disk" options will work and I can
download pictures from my camera with other software.
I have tried the solutions posted here (run"REGSVR32
SHIMGVW.DLL", TweakUI, check the registry for correct
values in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Policies\Explore, run autofix.exe from
http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/autofix.exe)
but none of these have worked for me.
The other listed removable disk options, such as Microsoft
Picture It! will open and download pictures, but the
Scanner and Camera Wizard will not run.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Just as an experiment, try this...
Connect the camera and go to...
Start / Run...
enter... wiaacmgr.exe
Click...OK.

This may launch the wizard.

John, thank you for the suggestion. When I try this I get
the message "computer can not detect camera or scanner." I
think the computer actually can detect the camera, because
Microsoft Picture It will download the pictures as will my
camera software.

Ok....what happens if you go to...Control Panel /
Scanners and Cameras / Add an imaging device...
There is a wizard that may help you install the camera.

John, I have tried this repeatedly with no luck. The
camera (an Olympus c-4000 zoom) is not listed and when I
put the camera CD in and click "have disk" the wizard says
the CD does not contain the necessary files. I have tried
this every way I can figure out, browsing the camera CD
for anything helpful.
What puzzles me is that oringinally the "scanner and
camera" wizard worked just fine with this camera, then it
just stopped.
Thank you for your help.

This is easier,

Here is another solution from Roberto Cordero:

Hello all,

I've seen many posts on this topic, and actually I had
this same problem.

My Vivitar 3550 camera used to work with the Scanner and
Camera Wizard,
until I installed Windows XP Service Pack 1. It wasn't
until more than a
year later than I found THE solution.

In the following website they post a solution that (I
think) has an error on
it, or something missing:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/f
aq/default.asp

However, thanks to them for taking me closer to the REAL
cause of the
problem and how to solve it. The article tells you to
look for a Registry
setting in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Policies\Explore
r

If you followed their instructions, great but we are not
done yet. Look for
a similar setting in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Policies\Explor
er

In my case, the "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" value here was a
REG_BINARY instead of
a REG_DWORD. If this is your case, you can try these
steps:

1. Delete that binary value by highlighting
the "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" value
and pressing the DEL key.
2. Right-click on that right-pane, select New - DWORD
value.
3. Name the New Value as "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"
4. Double-click or press Enter to modify the newly
created value.
5. Select the "Decimal" radio button, and then type "145"
without the
quotations.
6. Click OK and then close the Registry Editor.
7. Save your work and restart your computer. (Logging off
is not enough.)

After the reboot, give your camera a try. Mine brought
the Scanner and
Camera Wizard back to life!

Please note: I don't know why that value was binary
instead of dword, and if
that was supposed to be the case. However, I can tell you
that following the
steps above was the only way I could get the Scanner and
Camera Wizard to
work with my camera again. Neither TweakUI nor the FAQ
from the Expert Zone
worked for me.

Good luck.

I followed this advice and it worked for me.

Hi,

Well, it sounds like you have tried everything.
At least you can download your images in
other ways.

Some users have reported success using a
fix posted by Roberto Cordero...it may be
worth a try. Proceed at your own risk...

Before editing your registry, I strongly suggest
that you read the following KB article:

Information About Editing the Registry

Here's a copy of his message:
