I got curious. So ok, eBuyer have withdrawn their teleophony service...or have they? Have they just stopped advertising their number? or have they stopped it all together.

Chris Postill Reports on companies and premium rate numbers

Many companies nowadays have chosen to use national rate numbers such as 0870 and some even premium rate technical support numbers such as 0906 numbers, But what if you can get through to the same department without paying the price?

I got suspicious because of two reasons. For aria.co.uk you can call 0906 47 00 309 (60p/min)

OR

You can call 0870 4432386 (national rate which i think is about 5p per minute)

That 0870 number is advertised as "Dedicated Shuttle XPC support" and the 60p one is advertised as "Technical Support"

BUT

BOTH GO THROUGH TO THE SAME LINE, THE SAME PEOPLE, THE SAME DEPT
I went to google and tried to find numbers for ebuyer, seeing as they have withdrawn offering any telephone service. Google returned several hits and one inparticular led me to a forum where as usual, someone was complaining that the company had sent the wrong item and they had to go through the eNote system to get an RMA number...

On the secon page i found a link. It has telephone numbers of several companies. Not just the normal numbers, but sometimes the NOT ADVERTISED ones that are CHEAPER TO CALL.

So if you want to save money then...

Ebuyer.com 0870 4670753 OR 0114 2016965

Overclockers UK 0870 4430880 OR 01782 339600

Aria Technology 0870 7444448 OR 0161 2484383

To name but three.

Hope someone finds this useful!

Did you know that companies use 0870 numbers because they make money per minute when you call them - that's why they'll try to make the phone call as long as they can. I think it's 9p p/min to call an 0870 number from a BT line, and they get about 3p/min when you call them.

How cheeky!

Chris you are too young to start paying your dues back to the society but you have already started at this young age. Great job

My hats off to you!

:):) ahh cheers Quad :):)

No point in finding something like that and not telling people you know about it, That's just not fair. Forums are about sharing problems and solutions and ideas, if no-one had any, this place would not exist :(

:D
