Saving Documents in Word 2002 using Vista

Word won't save changes to documents: initially because it said they were
read-only, then after I changed that, it said it couldn't save to a disc that
was either full, write-protected or damaged. My C drive is perfectly ok, and
I was able to save changes to the same documents previously, so why won't it
now? Please can someone help before I tear all my hair out!

What is the file name you are trying to use?

I'm not sure what the relevance of the file name is, but it was simply
entitled "unread books". I tried creating a new Word document then copying
the guts of the file to it, but that still didn't work as I could not save
it. It said Word could neither save nor create this document, but didn't give
a reason. I'm at my wits end with this! I wouldn't mind but it's not long
since I could make changes to this document (which I need to do on a regular
basis), but now for some reason it won't do it. Have you any ideas?

The file name is relevant if it contained any illegal characters, such as \,
in the file name. Depending on the version of Word you are using the error
message is similar to what you provided.

What version of Word are you using? Where are you trying to save the file?
In the My Documents folder? When you removed "read only" how did you do
that? In the file properties?

I have Word 2002 (as provided in Works Suite 2005), and yes I was trying to
save to a sub-folder in my documents folder. I did change from read only by
going into the whole folder's properties. Funnily enough, I was fiddling
about with the document yesterday, and it saved a few amendments I made.
However, when I extended the document to another page, it wouldn't save it
anymore. I am wondering if either Word 2002 doesn't like Vista, or vice
versa? Any suggestions? Should I be looking to buy a newer version of Word,
if indeed there is one?

Thanks for your help so far, and any further hints would be most welcome.

To clarify, are you saying you can save the file but when you add another
page you encounter the error? If that's the case then the file could be on
the verge of corruption. Have you tried copying everything but the last
paragraph mark and pasting in a new document?
