I use the desktop as a temporary holding place.
Whenever I save an attachment, a link to a website, an image using
the snipping tool or any other piece of information, I save it to the
desktop until I decide where to move it, or to delete it.
This IMO is a not a good idea at all!
The desktop is no place for storing files if any kind, not even
temporary ones. Quite some problems may result out if this, the least
one slowing down the opening of Windows when booting.
Far better way: Create a *folder* for the temporary stuff (maybe
somewhere in "My Documents") and place a *LINK*/shortcut to the folder
on the desktop and/wir in the "Quick Launch" list.
This way the stuff is available with just one click
I've been doing this for years with NO ill effects.
I know there must be a location in the registry that can be changed,
and I'll find it sooner or later, however, I was hoping that someone
had already done this and knows where to make the change.
As "VistaRookie" already said, there is no default place for saving
attachments.
But WinMail remembers where an attachment was last stored. And by this
you could easily place all attachments which still need a decision on
being kept in the said basket (folder) for the temporary stuff.
