Save prompt for unchanged document

I have a standard Word document (no macros or any clever stuff) that prompts
me to save changes when I have made no changes at all. Even just opening and
closing a document will generate this prompt. I don't have any normal.dot
problems at present. This problem has arisen several times in the past.
