Save As - opening My Pictures?

I have all my folders set to List View. But most applications insist
on opening Save As > My Pictures (and Save As > My Videos) in
Thumbnail view. As these folders contain scores of subfolders, that's
never appropriate for me. Is it possible to change that behaviour for
XP generally please?

Open a Save As or Open dialogue box > Set the View to List > Hold down Ctrl
key + click the close button on the top right of the box (red X) to close the
box.

Thanks, but that makes no difference here!

Thought I'd replied to this a day or so ago, but don't see it here...

Anyway, thanks, but that doesn't work for me.

Anyone else know how to achieve this please?

This might be stupid, but do you have folder options to 'remember
individual folder settings'?

Here are a couple of articles I've saved:

Open a common dialog box, change the view to the one you want, and then
hit Ctrl/Cancel. Yes, it's counterintuitive, but this solution is in Ed
Bott's book "Windows XP Inside and Out" and it works.

Restore Sort order in Open and Save dialogs

Yes, thanks, that's set. But this is a query about the Save As (and
Open) browse dialogs, not the standard Explorer views.

Thanks, but doesn't work here. Does it work for you? Open IrfanView or
MS Paint or whatever, and use File > Open to browse to My Pictures.
What is the view? Here it is *always* thumbnails. If I then click
Cancel while pressing the Ctrl key, the browse dialog disappears. When
I open it again it's once more in Thumbnail view.

I'll also take a look at that Registry change.

You'll grow old and grey searching the Registry for that.

It's hard coded into the Windows API.
