BTW, this is £100 more. Why ?

Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Ultimate 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI

"Atlantis" is just a brand name. The "Ultimate" has a Zalman passive heat
sink cooler to make it run quieter. The Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro Atlantis
128MB DDR would be like the one that got 44138 Aquamark in the Tom's
hardware test you cite, not the one with twice the memory that got 44179.

The "Ultimate" shouldn't be 100 UKP more than the regular board--either it's
overpriced wherever you're looking or you're getting a _very_ good price on
the non-Ultimate.

" Is this like the one mentioned in these benchmarks - fifth from the top ?
Just not sure what the 'Atlantis' means. "

Yeah, that's the one. You need to look through all of the benchmarks in
that article ( http://tinyurl.com/2x4g6 ), as the comparison you quoted is
only Aquamark 3. The Radeon 9800 Pro does better than fifth in most of the
others.

'Atlantis' is just a word they seem to attatch to their Radeon cards (
http://tinyurl.com/284bp ). The 9800 Pro 'Ultimate Edition' just has a
Zalman ZM80A-HP attatched to it ( http://tinyurl.com/b0yj ). The 9800 XT
'Ultimate Edition' has a Zalman ZM80C-HP attatched to it (
http://tinyurl.com/olm8 ). It would be cheaper to buy them seperately if
you really need that kind of cooling.

The latter; 9800 Pros are going for less than £160 on avg., while everything
above that is still in the mid-to-high £200s. And had I the cash, i'd have
one too...

Thanks guys. Have just ordered one to go with my P4 2.8 - £152. It just
seemed too good to be true. WTF are people spending 400 or 500 on a card
for if we are looking at score like that for a card at this price ?

That's a very good question. When I saw that Newegg.com had the OEM Sapphire
9800Pro for $215 I thought there had to be something wrong with the card.
Nope. I have had it for a few weeks now and I'm loving it. JLC
