same modem - Wxp slow speed

New Wxp user. PC w/ dialup CNR modem is set in
properties box to connect at max speed (115200bps) but
only connects at 26400. Took PCI internal dial up modem
from Wme PC that connects at 115200;installed in Wxp PC.
Same slow speed. Settings are the same and phone line is
same. Wme PC loads pages in seconds. Wxp PC takes minutes.
(with same HSP56 micromodem). Any ideas?

Hello

Use a different brand of modem all together or have your
local phone company test your line for noise.

the "115200 connection" is between the Modem and the PC, NOT the speed
that the modem is connected to the ISP. That is the 26400 speed and is
likely the same on both PC. You probably have a problem with the XP box
in the form of malware and its using the connection too.
