To create a shortcut that performs the same function as the "Safely
Remove Hardware" icon on your desktop.

First create a new shortcut (right-click on an empty area of the desktop
and choose NEW > SHORTCUT).

When you come to the box labelled "Type the location of the item" ,
copy and paste the following into the box :

rundll32 shell32,Control_RunDLL Hotplug.dll

....then press [Next>] and name it "Safely Remove Hardware" on the next
page.

Press [Finish] to exit.

You can then change the icon by right-clicking on the shortcut and
choosing 'Properties', then under the 'Shortcut' tab, click on the
'Change Icon' button.

Navigate (browse) to the file :

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Hotplug.dll

....to get the same icon for your shortcut as is on the one that appears
in the taskbar.

Thanks guys...seems this is a large problem after additional Google
searches...I have traced my specific issue to PCTools Spyware Doctor...when
SD loads at startup as is the default...a number of system tray
icons...including Safely Remove Hardware icon. If I close SD before shut
down or restart...no problem...if I restart with SD running...I loose two or
three icons upon restart ?

Don't know why...but that's it...I will keep your shortcuts handy in any
case..

Thanks, Tim
