Safe services?

New to Wxp. Browsing thru Administrative tools in CPanel
and clicked on services. Noticed some services that
either send info out or allow others to remotely access
registry. Stopped messenger and remote registry with no
ill effects.
1. Is this the messenger svc. that allows the annoying
popups while browsing?
2. Don't want any info being sent out/into my PC. I have
a firewall but it is constantly asking to allow my PC to
access internet. Which services can/should I stop or
disable?

Answers to your question

1. No, if you want to block those annoying pop ups install SP2 for XO and
use the pop up blocker. www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2

2. If you do install XP Sp2 and use the windows firewall it will prompt you
when services are trying to get in or out but I would not adivse you
disabling any services within windows
