Safe Mode

I have read a lot of safe mode "stuff", but not found my exact situation. I
have a Gateway PC. A couple days ago I was "cleaning up" the computer and
may have taken too many things off. I was downloading AOL by mistake,
stopped the download, then proceeded to try to delete it from the computer.
The next time I started the computer it went into that screen that I
eventually had to start it in safe mode. What happens when that occurs?
Anything I can do to get it back to normal? Everything works in safe mode,
i.e. I can get on line, use all the programs and everything seems to work a
little herky jerky, but it works. Also, at the top of the screen it says:
Microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519: Service
Pack 2). What does that mean?

Kip, if you choose Normal Start and it won't boot then try a system
restore from safe mode. Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System
Restore. The info at the bottom just tells you that you have WinXP with
Service Pack 2 Installed.

Thanks for the info Rich. I tried several restores at different dates. None
worked. Thank you about the Service Pack 2 info. Have any idea of what causes
the "glich" on the windows in the first place?

Kip, I would try from Safe Mode going to your System Volume Information
Folder>RPFolder>pick one three from the most recent ie: if RP18 then go to
RP15>Snapshot Folder>first five Registry Files. Copy all five and go to
C:\Windows\System32\Config Folder. Those files you copied should be System,
Default, Software, Sam and Security.
Find those same files in the Config Folder and rename them ie: System1,
Default1 etc. Then paste the five files you copied
into the Config Folder. Restart, and maybe say a short prayer.

Rich, thank you for your time and effort. I am not proficient enough to mess
with the registry files. I think I am on my way to a computer repair store
:). Thanks again.
