Safe Mode Display

I've been trying to troubleshoot this problem for months now and still noone
knows why it's doing this not even Toshiba.

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8200 laptop and everytime I'm in windows and restart
into safe mode my screen is all dark like I'm running 8-bit display but
worse and can just see what I am doing but looking at the screen from an
inch away but when I shut down and start up into safe mode the display is
excellent.

It only happens with Windows XP, Windows 2000 is ok, this problem also
happened on another Toshiba I had, which was a Satellite Pro 4600, both
computers has the Trident CyberBlade XP video display.

Any idea's?

thanks

.
Check for the brand and model of your PC's video card,
from in the device manager or in display properties,
settings, and then the advanced button. Or in accessories,
system tools, system information under video or display.
Then go to that companies web site, find driver downloads,
type in your model video card and install the most recent
driver which is ok with XP to use. Then just update the
driver using device manager. If that laptop has only
integrated graphics, then it may be a BIOS setting.

I'm already using the latest video drivers

If you can, get on the internet and see if there is driver
update for that particular video adapter, or a patch.
Likely, you aren't the only one who has experienced this
problem. Toshiba probably has a users community on their
website. You may find a resolution there. I'd try the
driver update first, even if you have to use a different
computer to get it, that may be the answer.

Hope this helps.

I have found a set of updated drivers, but after installing them and
restarting the system all I get is a black screen, I try pressing the Fn+F5
which is dual display and I can see the desktop etc for a split second

| I've tried the Toshiba fourm and no help there, I can use my computer ok,
| it's only when I restart in safe mode that I have this problem, no big
deal
| but it's something I like to fix.
