S-video cable

How do I capture video from my vcr/dvd player using a S-video cable? When I
click on "capture from video device" all I get is a message saying that a
video device is not detected.

You can't unless you have an analog video capture device attached to the
computer end of the s-video cable. I also don't think that WMM will use
that device well, if at all.

If you want to do a good job of video capture from any VCR/DVD player
playing ANY VHS or DVD, purchase a ADS Tech, DVDExpressDX2 device (last one
I purchased was from Wal-Mart for about $65.) It will allow you to hook
either an S-video or RCA type connection for video capture and also connects
the audio from the audio outputs of the player. The input into the computer
is via USB. It captures very well with the included capture software and
will create MPEG 1, MPEG 2, DIVX or even files that will work on ipod or PSP
devices in MPEG 4. It also has a video editing program from Ulead called
Video Studio 9SE which is just, if not more powerful than WMM in editing
files. It will even burn DVDs.

The only problem I have ever had with the software is that it won't capture
directly to .wmv files and I have to use the Ulead software to convert the
MPEG files to .WMV for import into WMM if I am going to use that program for
some of its features.

WMM can use an analog capture device quite well. I have Hauppauge PCI cards
in two computers and a Hauppauge USB tuner that goes on two other computers.
WMM on all four computers turns out fine movies.

John you are not the norm I'm afraid, most people cannot use analogue
devices and MM.

Windows media centre is better equiped than XP to use analogue.
