Rule to distinguish between aliases

My father's system is networked to mine and we share a broadband internet
connection. However, because of the way my ISP allocates addresses, the
mail is always downloaded to the one mail box, as the part after the @ is
static and it's only the alias that changes. Both systems are running XP
Pro, his is running Office XP and mine 2003. What I need to do is set up a
rule on each system which reads as follows

The addresses are in the format (e-mail address removed), where the 'd.b'
changes according to whose address it is.

"Download mail for D but leave S's mail on server"

and vice versa for mine.

I've scoured the rule options but I cannot find anything that would fit this
description.

How can I set this up so that we don't end up receiving the other's mail, or
it all ends up being downloaded to inbox of the first person to check their
mail?

Thanks

Easy. Assuming your father's email is [email protected] and your's is
[email protected]
On your father's pc, set the pop username to "dad+smith12.freeserve.co.uk"
and on your's set it to "son+smith12.freeserve.co.uk" (without the quotes).
the only downside is that mail sent to "anythingelse other than son or
dad"@smith12.freeserve.co.uk will not be downloaded, but as most of this
will be spam then just use mailwasher once a month or so to clear it out.

If you mean the user name under 'logon information' I can't do that as it
has to be set to 'smith12.freeserve.co.uk' or the FS server will deny logon.
Or do you mean in the 'Your Name' box under 'User Information'?

No I mean the Username under logon information, and yes it will work - I've
been using a similar system with freeserve for years.

Well that's the last time I listen to the FS 'tech'! ;o) I won't know if
it's worked until I test it in the morning, so thanks for now and I feel
thoroughly embarrassed for not thinking of it myself - I guess I just
assumed!

It's not something that is generally known. Subscribe to the Freeserve help
groups, and you'll see a few people there who know about it.

I would suggest setting up a router. I think the 70.00
would be worth it for the amount of time spent trying to
find a soultion to your problem.
