Rogue Spyware: Spy-Sheriff

Has anyone been plagued with this one?
Spy-sheriff seems to be a legitimate spyware program, but I can't seem to
get rid of it and I
definitely _won't_ be forced to purchase it!
I have the 'old' Win98 system, pretty good Motherboard, and so on...but
for some time this guy
has 'imposed' himself on us!
I never (deliberately) requested, downloaded or
asked in any way for this sucker but it keeps re-installing itself. I
have gone through Uninstall, REmoval, delete everything I can find
associated with it. Both running normally and in 'Safe Mode' but it keeps
coming back! I found that someone had also had this problem (through
another board posting) and the solution the 'moderator' gave her was
pretty complex (into the Registry etc.) Has anyone here had this program
and removed it? Thanks in advance...Ken

- From http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm :

positives work as goad to purchase; inadequate scan reporting; same app as
SpyDemolisher & SpywareNo [A: 6-1-05 / U: 6-1-05]

You should post to the SpywareWarrior forums to let give further evidence
against SpySheriff.

Trustworthy anti-spyware products (along with download URLs) are listed here:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy
Please pass this URL on to friends and family, in case they fall into the
pit of "bad" anti-spyware programs.

I would install and update both Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. Then
restart the PC into safe mode and do a scan with Ad-aware, removing any
entries, reboot back into safe mode, then do the same with Spybot S&D.

Once you've scanned with both in safe mode, reboot once more and check with
them both again if either of them found anything.

After this if the program is either re-appearing in either program or when
you start normally still seems to be "there", post back here and let us know.

Once the mess is cleared up, I would use Spybot S&D's "Immunize" feature as
well as installing SpywareBlaster. These two measures set Windows/Internet
Explorer to refuse a lot of spyware elements being installed. They also
don't need to be running all the time, so don't impact on performance.

Good luck!
