Right Click Context Menu and ShellExView

June 7 I queried you really helpful guys about my right click context menu
and why it was taking so long to respond to me. One of you suggested I
download ShellExView. I did. I've been hacking. Simply because I don't know
what I'm doing really. Anyway Excel is no problem now but it's Word. Takes
FOREVER! Somehow I've managed to get Word to open a document if I double
click. But the right mouse button is still a very long response time. Can
anyone give me pointers about fixing this problem? I mean, should I be
looking for handle managers in ShellExView that specifically reference Word?
Thanks.

Try to Repair the Office Suite by going to the Add/Remove Programs in
Control panel and click Remove a pop-up window with three choices one of them
Repair will appear select it to repair the Office suite (you may need your
Office XP CD handy).
Another installed BHO on your IE plug-ins can cause this or third-party
toolbar.

I went one further than that. I actually uninstalled and then
reinstalled....and it made no difference.

Scan for malwares from here:

Then perform Disk Cleanup and open the Run command, type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and let it run, you will need your XP CD handy.

Nope. Totally clean system. Fully protected.

Okay, try these steps:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:

Do you have a third-party toolbar installed?.

Look in the event viewer for error message that can shed some light on the
causer.
Any changes recently to the system ( including hardware, software)?.

Ok I'll do all this...but I don't quite understand. It's not Internet
Explorer I'm having trouble with. It's File Explorer and right clicking on a
Word document. I have to wait a LONG LONG time for a response. And it only
happens with Word.

Hi Umma Gumma,

I would disable all non-Microsoft handlers first in ShellEXView then
try right-clicking on a word document. If all seems normal then enable
one handler and test the right-click. Repeat until the problem occurs.

When the problematic handler is found, you can either keep it disable
or uninstall the program for the handler.

Did what you suggested. My entire system locked up and I had to forcibly
boot it by pressing the i/o button non stop so it shut down and then
restarting it.
