Review and Install Updates Fails

Windows update has stopped working throughout my domain as of about the 9th
of this month. The workstations can still connect to the site, and can
successfully "scan for updates". However when "review and install updates"
is selected, it eventually times out with an error stating that IE could not
link to the requested site.

Occasionally, if I click on the "Back" button, and then immediately select
"review and install updates", the list is populated and it updates with no
further problems.

There are no errors in the event log, and the last event listed in the
windows update log is :

"2003-09-18 11:44:28 18:44:28 Success IUENGINE Querying software
update catalog from
https://a248.e.akamai.net/v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/consumerdrivers/getmanifest.asp"

The problem is universal to all of our workstations and servers; 2000 and
XP. I don't believe it's a firewall setting, as it works intermittently,
however if someone could advise the required ports for windows update to
function; :I'll check them out. The clients are also behind an ISA server;
I suppose that could be the culprit, but am not sure where to look.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
