Returning Items to the Start Menu

R

Robert

I like to drag icons from the start menu onto my desktop,
rather than always having to open the start menu.

How do I return something to the start menu if I no
longer want it on the desktop. I have tried dragging
items back to the start menu, but they don't return to
their original place on the menu.

Yes, you can drag them back into the Start menu, but you need to be sue not
to let go of the mouse until the menu has opened up to just the section you
want.

Drag the icon from the desktop to the Start menu button (don't let go of the
mouse yet!).
After a second or so, the Start menu will open up. Now, continue dragging
the icon up the main Start menu panel and stop when you reach the category
you want (don't let go of the mouse yet!). After a second that sub menu
will open. Continue along these lines until the correct Start menu area is
open and drag the icon into that area. Then release the mouse button.

By the way, when you want to drag an icon from the Start menu to the
Desktop, do it while holding the RIGHT mouse button down, rather than the
left. When you let go, you'll have the choice to copy the icon, rather than
move it. If you choose copy, you won't have removed it from the Start menu
in the first place.
