Restricted sites in IE

I am looking to remove a few restricted sites in IE. I have tried Tools
Internet Options>Security tab> Restricted sites >Clicked the Sites button
clicked the name of the Web site I wanted to remove then clicked the Remove
button, and then click OK twice. However they return after a restart. Is
there anything else i can try?
I would appreciate any help, thank you Doze00

It sounds to me like a network administrator on your network has applied
these Resticted Sites settings using a Group Policy. This would explain why
they come back after a reboot. Contact the administrator in your organisation
who is responsible for Group Policy.

I have the same problem, i can't empty my restricted sites folder, but i have
a stand-alone PC at home, and I am an administrator. (me and my husband have
separate folders)

Are you using an anti-malware/spyware/adware, or ad-blocking program such as
Spybot Search & Destroy, etc. that places entries automatically in the
restricted sites list?

These entries are stored in the registry. To clear them up, without having
to edit the registry manually, go here:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/restricted.htm and scroll down a little bit
to the "To remove all the sites listed in the Restricted Zone" part for a
little program that will clean them up for you.

I am having the same problem with removing restricted sites in IE. I am the
Administrator, with my daughter's account. How do I change the Group Policy
in relation to Restricted Sites? Thanks.

Andy,
Use this MVP tool to flush the Restricted Sites Zone;
<http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf>
*While logged into your daughter's account*
Save the above file to desktop, right click and select "install".

You might want to "harden" the Restricted Zone, while you're there;
<http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/restricted.htm>
See: Setting the Restricted Zone.

To address your other queries -
Depends if you have Group Policy in-place.
Assuming Windows XP;
How To Use the Group Policy Editor to Manage Local Computer Policy in Windows XP
<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307882>

Or, save yourself the grief or trial and error and install a HOSTS file!

Thanks jon, siljaline and ALL. I used the MVPS link and it worked perfectly,
removing all sites from the Restricted Zone. Yes, I am using Spybot Search &
Destroy. Thanks again and all have a nice weekend. Andy39
