Restrict Installation of printers -

Hi ,

Can i restrict network users (not domain users as these users are not
loggin in to domain) to add a network printer, some users are adding
printer locally and then adding TCP/IP port with the printer IP address
and they are gaining access to printer which i want to be restricted.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried using a firewall that allows you to restrict certain IP
addresses from being accessed? This will of course require you to find
a way to prevent the users from messing with the firewall -- probably
some policy that says that violators will be punished, but then you
could do the same for the printers. The real problem is that the
administrator is going to need support from management to keep the users
from "playing" with the network and its devices.

Try to install a Print Server, install the printer there and share the
printer,

How can I install the print server and where to install in domain
controller ?

create vlan's on the switch.

how can i create a vlan on the switch , do you have documentation for
this Dragos ?

print server - isn't so good to be on a domain controller - could be on what
server do you have there ( a file server is better) - install printer there
share (modify rights) and create a separate vlan with print server+ printer,
add the port of print server to default vlan where reside all others
computers - so in that case even the user is administrator on his computer he
cant add the printer because he can "see it".

create vlan's on the switch - depends on what type of switch's do you have
there
