Restoring a backup

Prior to reinstalling my Vista due to some troubles I made a backup on my F:
drive.
Having now reinstalled Vista I try and 'Restore'.
From Windows Backup I get "There was an unexpected error: Backup has not
been set up on this computer. An administrator must first create a backup
before you can restore files (0x810000EE)
Backup will now close.
However if I look on my F drive I see my backup set and date made.
I would appreciate it if you can direct me to the answer.

There is no limit to the number of dumb things Windows will report.

Just a wild guess...when you reinstalled Vista any marker to the
backup you made with a prior version of Windows isn't accepted
possibly because of some half-ass "security" BS.

The lesson to be learned is ALWAYS test any backup scheme actually
works before you actually need to use it.

This is why I have no use for any imaging backup software. The best
way to make backup is simply duplicate the files you can't afford to
lose and put them on a separate drive, better if an external that you
don't automatically run and only turn on when needed. I've "backed" up
over 3 TB worth of priceless data this way and never lost anything and
likely never will since the chances of two copies of any file getting
corrupted or two hard drives failing at the same time is so
astronomical it is almost impossible.

I'm afraid I'm a thickie Mark, I can see no way to set permissions for
backup, can you guide me please?

I can tell you what I see on my tested backup, but it would be a guess what
you are seeing. Sorry.
I rightclick my backup folder, named for my machine (in my case 'M'), the
rightclick menu on the 'backup set' folder has Properties, then Security
tab, As I highlight each user, 'Creator Owner ' has no rights, but "Admin"
and mine have 'read/execute' and read' etc, and "System" has all, (Full
Control, etc)
I would guess this is somehow lacking on your system.

Thanks Mark. I have been able to follow the route you said and all my
settings seem to be the same as yours but still I'm unable to 'Restore' in
the normal fashion.

Hi:

Have you been able to restore your files from backup. I backed up to disk
before sending my laptop off to be repaired and when trying to do the backup
I get the same message you received. "Backup has not been setup on this
computer. An administrator must first create a backup before you can restore
files. (0x810000EE)." I am the administrator.
