Restore with ASR and backup file

Hi:

The other day I tried to restore Windows backup file with an ASR disk and
this is what happened to me:

(1) I used the CD to boot up from C:
(2) I pressed F2 for using ASR to recover
(3) Windows expressed it has to reformat the hard disc before restore, so it
did
(4) After format, it copies any necessary files and trying to locate the
backup file - here is my problem...
(5) The backup file is located in another system and since the OS has not
yet been installed so it cannot access the file through the network,
(6) I relocated the file to D: but Windows cannot recognize there is another
hard disc. It can only recognize floppy, CD drive, and the C

In the end, I could not figure out any ways for Windows to access the backup
file.
Does any tried recover with ASR disk and Windows backup file?
If so, kindly share your experience.

Thanks in advance.

I use the ASR restore a couple of years ago, just to see if it worked. It
did. But I have never used it since. The reason? ASR restore took about 35
minutes. When using Drive Image (either 2002 or ver 7.01) I can restore in
under 5 minutes.

I stored the backup on a local hard drive, formatted NTFS, so my situation
is not the same as yours.

The .bkf file needs to be on a HDD partition on the local computer (not the partition that is being restored) and the ASR floppy needs to be written after the .bkf is written so that ASR can find the files to restore.

And as Crusty said it does work. I too do not use ASR any more, what I use is an imaging program from Acronis http://www.acronis.com/products/trueimage/ it works just fine.
