Restore data from archive file

Recently I had to reload my OS on a clean drive and fortunately I had my data
backed up. I successfully restored outlook, but I didn’t have access to the
archived data because it wasn’t connected yet. I keep the archive data on a
different drive. What’s the correct process to re-connect outlook to the
archive.pst data?

In Outlook do File-Open-Outlook data File and navigate to where you
stored the pst file.

Hmmm. im not sure if i tried that one, but I guess i did it the long way, i
did a Import/Export and imported all the data from the archive file ( a ton
of data). now its in outlook and I will re-archive it so it will be back to
the archived state and in theory, i will have access to it like i did before.
If I cross this again, i will try your solution first.

For your future info:
Do not use the import/export function to move data from one Outlook to
another.
Why not?

Importing an entire PST may well corrupt your profile and may create a
ghost
PST that you can't close. Importing PST's will lose:
1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not
advise people to import a native file into Outlook.

Of course, it won't re-archive until it is has been in your default folders
for the length of the archive interval.
