Restore button

I have a client with an Excel 97 problem. When she clicks
the Restore Window button, the window appears to
minimize. Left clicking the icon on the task bar does not
restore the window and when right clicking, I see the
Restore option greyed out. Right clicking and choosing
maximize appears to be the only way to open the Excel
window back up.

Also, I noticed that double clicking the Excel icon (when
minimized) causes the right click menu items Move, Size,
Minimize and Maximize to become available, as though the
window is restored (but it is not visible). Double
clicking again causes Restore and Maximize to become
available, as though the window is minimized. However, in
neither case does the window appear. Only maximize will
restore it. I also tried switching to Excel using Alt-
TAB, but that doesn't restore it either.

Any help in troubleshooting this behavior would be
greatly appreciated. Please remove "nospam" from my email
address if you write me directly.

Thanks!

It might not be minimizing. It could be just a window that isn't on the visible
screen (too high/too left...).

Try this:
rightclick on the windows taskbar (any old empty spot)
select cascade windows
and resize by hand

(I'd do it with just excel running--less stuff to resize.)

Dave - thank you for your reply. I'm afraid I tried that
first (should have mentioned it). I tried cascade, tile,
anything I could think of to get it to show - no luck. I
don't see it. Any other ideas?

Not really.

I think I've seen posts that describe problems similar to yours. You may want
to search google to see if there were any suggestions (I don't recall them if
there were).

Actually, I think someone suggested rightclicking on the title bar (double
clicking on it should toggle between restore and maximize). Their guess was
that windows was having trouble finding those buttons in the top right corner.
(My words, not theirs.)

And just to make sure, this isn't just a protected workbook with the Windows
option checked.

(Tools|protection|protect workbook)
