Restore 98 backedup files in xp

I have some files that is backed up (.qic) in windows 98.
I tried to restore it using XP backup utility. I am
getting an error message "backup file contains
unrecognised data and cannot be used"
can anybody help me

This is a prime example of MS un-joined-up thinking. Unfortunately they
decided that although they want everyone to migrate to a unified OS, they
would not allow XP backup to read anything other than....XP backup! Doh!

there are one or two utilities that I think may work, try a google search.
