Restart loop

i have windows xp home on my computer and now whenever it reaches the
"Windows XP" splash screen with the loading bar at the bottom.. after 3
seconds a blue screen with white text flashes and the computer restarts
itself..
When it restarts it comes up with the screen saying that the coomputer wasnt
turned off properly and has the "safe mode" and "start windows normally" etc.
options...

when i choose "start windows normally" or "last known god configuration" the
same thing happens with the splash screen and it restarts..

when i choose "safe mode" a load of text starts scrolling up the screen but
stops at
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys
and sbout 5 seconds later the computer restarts again..

i dont know if this is a hardware problem or a software problem.. someone
told me to try running the machine with the case off and the same problems
happen..

i also tried pressing Del at the start and setting all the fail-safe
defaults.. i dunno it could just be me but i think it takes 1 or 2 seconds
longer to restart when i do that lol..

its an endless loop and im stuck

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Look on the Startup Menu (the one with the Safe Mode and other options
on it) for an item that reads "disable automatic restart on System
Failure" or words to that effect and choose that option.

That should result in a "Blue Screen Of Death" STOP error message
instead of a restart and if it does then the contents of the STOP
message, including all of the parameter codes and any file or
component names will be a direct clue as to the underlying cause of
your problems.

If this does not resolve your problem then the next best option is to
do a Repair Install as per the instructions at
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Note that some of the OEM versions of Windows XP that come bundled
with new computers do not provide the capability of doing a Repair
Install.

Good luck
