Hi Cathy,
What your Computer make/Brand?.
You may have corrupted software or malwares on your system, so do the
following:
- Clear up your caches, internet files and cookies
- Run Disk Clean Up on your Drive
- Scan for malwares and Viruses
- Run chkdsk on your Drive
- Try to download the Diagnostic tools for your HDD from the HDD
manufacturer.
- Start your computer with clean boot to do that do this:
Open a run command and type in:
msconfig click [OK].
On the system Configuration window click on StartUp and uncheck unnecessary
Software/programs from starting up and Reboot and see if you will get the
Error.
HTH.
Let us know.

Cathy said:My computer is an HP Pavilion a305w. I did what you said below except for
the diagnostic tool for HDD. I don't know what that means or how to get it.
I don't get the prompt anymore but I still think my computer might be a
little off. The screen gets dark at times for no reason and I hit the top of
the computer and it goes back to normal. Sometimes it stays like that for
quite a while and the pounding on top of the computer does not work. Got any
ideals about that?
Thanks for your help!
