Resetting Machine account passwords

R

Ryan Hanisco

All,

I have a situation where I am getting replication errors and I have
tracked it down to machine account passwords.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;260575

I intend to follow the MS instructions in the KB article, but the
directions aren't completely clear at the end of Step 3. It says that
the replication propagates to the other DCs, but then lists an
additional NETDOM command implying that this is a manual process.

Can someone clear this up for me?

You mis-read it. The second NETDOM is just an example.
Replication does propagate to the other DCs.

NETDOM is the command line way of resetting the password. All DCs
sync/replicate information that is entered in to them having to do with
authentication.

What the article is saying is "All DCs will sync and recognise the change of
the password (netdom command) you did on one DC, so that all DCs are on the
same page with one another".
