req: virusscanner for email only

Hi all,

Grandma has a very very very old laptop, just to be in touch with some
relatives by email, and play solitaire cardgames. (And yes, we do visit her
twice a week)
The only programs she knows are OE and her cardgames, and she has no
intention to learn how to use any other program.

My question: Is there a antivirus program that only checks email, or an
antivirus that could startup when OE starts up, and shuts down when OE
shutsdown ?

Grandma says TIA.

AVG free will let you install just the email checking portion rather than the
full active bloat. Not quite as clever an option as you suggest but may fit
your needs. Other ones I looked at said they didn't need to scan emails as
the active scanner would stop everything trying to execute - no - no - no . .

=== there are email services that scan email for you before you get it
(Yahoo or g-mail for instance), but the best thing is probably turn off
HTML in her viewing , and set OE to use the restricted zone ============

Thanks Fred, I just found out that grandma's isp scans every incoming and
outgoing email for viruses using Kapersky. Good enough for her.

Thank you, see my reply to Fred.
