Hi

I'm responsible for the pc-labs in the school that I work in. We have to
run win98 due to (stupid) local policies (I'd prefer Linux as I run here).
Some pupils always thinks they know more about computers than the next
person or just wants to destroy things, so they mess up the computer so I
have to reinstall a ghost. Not the biggest job in the world, but it would
be preferable if there was a tool which reset the computer to a given
state at each boot. Doen anyone know of such a tool?

Many thanks
Ketil

Go-Back is the one I use and it has the ability to "Auto-Revert". It was a
Roxio product but I understand Symantec bought it so check their site.
There is (was) a free download for the lite version when Roxio had it.

VMware allows for this.

Creating a hidden partition with the ghost image would also make quik
work of the restore.

Since you are running 98 you might also want to look at "GoBack" which
is essentially System Restore.

Hi Ketil,

Have you ever considered a hardware solution like the Reborn-card?
We use them at the library where I work, both with W98 and WXP.
No matter what the youngsters try, do a reboot and get the original
state. They do cost money (hence the OT), but we think it's worth it.
www.lenten.com, but there are other manufacturers.

Thanks everyone!

I couldn't find a free download unfortunaltely, and even though $29 is not
a lot - it soons adds up to a lot in the tightest budget ever.
The only thing I've found which looks a bit like this is:
http://winret.sourceforge.net/

I'll keep looking and are greatfull for any more tips!

Best
Ketil
