Replacing DesignJet service station

LarryF

We moved our DesignJet 800ps to a new office, and now when I power it
on, it reports a 'System error 21:10' and tells me to 'Call HP
Support'. I called the local repair shop, and they told me it probably
needs a new service station for about $100 plus $170 per hour for an
hour or more.

Is the service station something that I could install myself? Are there
instructions anywhere on the Internet that tell how to do it, or should
I just pay to have it done?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

If you go to
http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/17317/HP_DesignJets 500.html you can
download the service manual which contains full instructions for replacing the
service station. This is a big file and you will need to download all of the
parts. The repair shop is probably correct by the way, error 21:10 is almost
always a service station/aerosol fan assembly failure.

A quick search found
http://www.computercareonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=67_106&products_id=5
who sell these assemblies for $135, but you should search more thoroughly to
see if you can find one more cheaply, I recommend a genuine HP part rather than
a non HP compatible part.

I suggest you download the manual and check to see if you feel confident to do
the job, it is not very difficult and I believe you could do it in less than an
hour. In particular read the instructions for unlocking the carriage before
attempting to remove the service station/aerosol fan.

Genuine HP parts are available at http://partsurfer.hp.com, specifically for
this part you need part number C7769-60149, $91 at
