Replacement fan for AIW 9700 Pro???

I have an AIW 9700 Pro and my stock fan is dying. I tried to peruse the ATI
support site but it seems to be down....plus I heard ATI does not sell
replacement fans for its video cards. My card is out of warranty as well.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement fan that will fit the heatsink on the
9700 Pro? If I cant find one, I will probably just buy a new 9700 Pro and swap
out the fan, then return the unit for a full refund. Kind of sneaky, but I'm
not going to pay $75.00 for a replacement fan either.

I had a fan replaced for my AIW Radeon 32 MB card a few months ago and I'm
sure that's allot older than your AIW 9700. I say contact ATI (via their
website support pages which I've just found to be working - albeit at a new
URL) and try your luck. It worked fine for me.

Failing that, as already suggested a 3rd party fan would work with your card
(although pre 9xxx series cards don't have the required holes to mount them)
or the original fan will probably have the manufacturers name and model
number on the back. In my case it was an Adda chipcooler style fan which I
could have obtained from the local Adda distributor if no other options were
available.

I had a similar problem with my stock 9700 Pro (not AIW). Except
you're in a better position than me :) Mine failed without me
noticing. It was a case of why is my screen going weird.

Anyway - the fix I did was to install a Zalman passive graphics card
cooler. It costs a bit and the installation is a bit fiddly but it's
done the job for about 18 months after install so far. The other
advantages it has it that as a few big lumps of metal and no fan, it
is silent and you don't have to worry about fan failure.
