replace windows xp with windows 2000

I replaced the Windows XP Home edition (DELL Dimension 8300)
with Windows 2000 Pro. I repartitioned and reformated the HD
before install the windows 2000.

But the annoying dual boot menu appears every time the PC
is rebooted. It shows two items: XP and 2000.

How to completely 'erase' the trace of the XP?

I thought to do it with a windows 98 bootable disk to
repartition and reformat the HD first but there is no
floppy drive on the PC. I burned the floppy to a CD but
it doesn't boot from there.

Thank you for tips.

You'll need to delete the options you want removed from the boot.ini, it's a
system, hidden file in the root of the system partition. So you'll need to
show-all-files, hidden, system in Explorer. You should end up with something
like this (below). The timeout value is not functional when there is only
one startup choice.

You'll be removing this line
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP"
/fastdetect

[boot loader]
timeout=10
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000"
/fastdetect
