Repair Internet Explorer?

Suzie

I think I need to repair Internet Explorer coz my internet search isn't all
there after removing Lop spyware.
It's too far back to do a system restore. I've run Spybot & Adaware.
I tried to run sfc /scannow but I get a message that my XP CD isn't the same
one as was installed.
Also tried to reinstall IE 6 but message tells me it's already installed and
no repair option that I can see.
Thanks for help.

If a repair doesn't do the trick, you can try a reinstall:
Start the Registry Editor

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed
Components \ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

right-click the IsInstalled value, and then click Modify
Change the value data, from 1 to 0
Close the registry editor

Download and install Internet Explorer 6.

The above will let you reinstall the Internet Explorer 6 browser component.
To reinstall Outlook Express 6, change the IsInstalled value from the
following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active
Setup \ Installed Components \ {44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}

Note: You need to be logged on as an administrator to be able to change
these registry keys.

Ad-Aware and Spybot will both probably remove Lop.com effectively but you'll
probably have to run them after rebooting into Safe Mode so Lop.com's hidden
files aren't running.

2. You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the
preferred tool to use these days. It will help to both identify and remove
any hijackware/spyware. **Post your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/
for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

Thanks to all for help, so far I'm still without the internet search and
down to the last couple of suggestions which edit the registry. The main
problem seems to be that my XP disc isn't the same as the one that was used
when I had a reinstall last year. (The guy said he didn't need it.)
Evrything else is Ok.
Thanks again, Suzie.
