I had to do a repair install on my winXP Pro today, and the
install will not complete, leaving me in (permanant) setup
purgatory. When running the repair install i get the
following message:
(diag box)"An error has been encountered that prevents
Setup from continuing. Setup failed to install the product
catalogs. this is a fatal error. The setup log files should
contain more information. Press OK to view the setup log file."
After pressing ok, i get this message:
"Error: Setup had problems registering the following OLE
controll DLL
C:\WINDOWS|System32\initpki.dll
Contact your system administrator, who may provide
assistance in diagnosing this problem.
Error: the signature for WindowsXP Professional Upgrade is
invailid. The error code is 426. The service has not been
started."
By the way, this is not an upgrade cd. I just can't seem to
get out of this and would appreciate any help. Thanks!
