Rent it out !!

The main reason of piracy involving MS products are its high costs. The easy
way out for people at Redmond would be to offer an option for its customers.
One way is to offer Vista as an outright buyable product and the other is to
rent it out on a yearly basis. Pricing the rental scheme right will
naturally convert the would be pirateers to buy genuine MS products. How
about that ?

I disagree. The main reason for piracy of Windows, or anything else for
that matter, is the loss of personal integrity and the general feeling of
entitlement that has pervaded the youth of today.

The reason why piracy is so high is little thing called Volume License which
is being taken care of with Software Protection Platform in Vista. Volume
License keys are often abused and misused out of the License agreement. If
you look at the majority of most pirated installations out there are Volume
License.

Good point Mark!

I don't know if it is limited by age range, plus, of course piracy only
exists because there are customers?

While I tend to agree with you, Mark- there are times when
companies or governments can overreact and push
too hard..... creating a backlash that basically "forces"
otherwise good people to take matters into their own hands
or act out in defiance to the perceived behemoth that controls
them.

My troubles with MSN Music, WMP 11, and DRM is one
example of me taking matters into my own hands.
