Removing two update entries from Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs

O

Opinicus

In my Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs list there are two entries, one
is for an Outlook Express update Q330994 (the one I think is causing the "~"
file to appear) and the other is for the recent Internet Explorer patch,
824145.

There are no uninstall files related to these two updates in the C:\Windows
folder so if I try and remove them, the updates actually will be removed,
won't they?

Is it possible to remove these entries from the Control Panel / Add or
Remove Programs list without actually uninstalling the updates?

To remove the hotfix entry from Add/Remove without removing the actual
update,

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
4. Make sure you backup the keys by exporting them to a .reg file.
5. Look for the hotfix number
6. Delete the entire listing for the hotfix.
7. Close the registry editor.
8. Restart your computer.

By doing the above, only the Add/Remove entry is removed; the update will
not be removed.

Type regedit in Start Run and look under here.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
