Removing traces of uninstalled programs in XP

Hey all, I have an annoying problem and am wishing that you guys can help me
out if possible. Any help would be really appreciated. Over the years I've
installed a number of programs, however, like most of us, I've come to
realize over time that I did not necessarily need all of them. I uninstalled
many. Problem is, there are now many folders on my PC that are named after
programs I've uninstalled a long time ago, I mean many folders.
Also when I upgraded from ME to XP several programs remained but did not
show up in my programs list under the Start Menu and are not visible under
Add/Remove Programs. I tried installing them from their respective folders
but did not succeed. I wish to uninstall these programs as I cannot access
them. Are there any free programs out there that may be able to help me? Any
other that I can purchase? Please help!!!

Try System Mechanic. from www.iolo.com. You can download a trial version
(good for 30 days, I think) and then purchase it if you like it. It has
worked well for me.

Most programs leave behind at least one folder when they uninstall, so if
there's a empty folder for a program you know you've uninstalled then you
can just delete it. Another trick, though it would be too tedious to do for
many programs, is to reinstall to the original location and then uninstall
it. Usually that will get rid of a remnants left behind by a previous
botched uninstall.

Hi! I would suggest a registry cleaner that would take
those and any obselete files which it would find out. I've
got a free one from the net and it works excellent.I too
have XP Home and have had no problems with it the only
problem is it is no longer on the net a new one is up and
you must pay for it.If you give a e-mail to me and can
accept a file that is 540kb.I would be happy so send it to
you. It is a freeware program and is a REAL no brainer of
a program. It also has a start-up tab so you can adjust
your start up programs too. This is the author of the
program Copyright 1999-2001 Jouni Vuorio All Rights
Reserved. He is the creator of the registry cleaner and
his new one is the JV16 Powertools which you may have
already heard of.
