Removing hijacker browser

M

Mondo

Any one figure out how to permanently remove
hijacker "Cool Web Search" as browser? This thing has
insinuated itself into my machine alone with three
uninvited, unsavory guests in my 'favorites' file. No
uninstall information has been forthcoming from
the 'webmaster'. I think this is a porn site and is a
nuisance total. Prefer to use IE 6
Have tried several Spyware tools etc with no luck. Maybe
I'm missing something. Slow on the draw perhaps but
persistant. Short of rewriting the drive and starting
over: any suggestions?
Around time this happened(Related?) began receiving error
message about missing PSAPI.DLL file.
Any one else out there ever get this one?
Thanks,
Ray

"Cool Web Search" hijacker removal tool:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
Unzip the tool, close all instances of IE & OE, hit the executable
and follow the prompts.

If you have any Security counter measures in-place "CWShredder" will
detect them - ignore those prompts warning you, if any present.

Run this above tool and post back with your findings as you likely will
require additional tools/information -

.Thanks for restoring my faith in humanity. So far so
good. Running win98se and it is cleaned up. Thought
something was fishy when the 'webmaster' failed to respond
after points of law were suggested and previous requests
for simple uninstal tools were ignored.
Love that shredder!!!!
Muchas Gracias hermanos y hermanas,
Ray

Glad to help, Ray - keep an eye out, report back if anything suddenly
becomes amiss.
*Great* Spyware resource page you may want to look at:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Add SpyBot and Ad-aware to your arsenal of protection -
HOSTS is a "must" in my books.
