Remove Office 2000

Recently I installed an upgrade of Office 2007 Professional to replace Office
2000 Professional on my Windows XP Home Addition system. I have tried to
remove Office 2000 using Control Panel > Add/Remove Software. As far as I
can see nothing gets removed.
Article 252566 referrs to the Erase2k utility, but it doesn't work with XP.
Three questions:
1. Does anyone know why Remove doesn't work?
2. Is there an Erase 2k utility that does work with XP?
3. Is the only way to do this manually by following the may steps in article
252566?

Hi Arjayen,

Check this article out. Looks very informative!

Earlier versions of Office are removed when you run the 2007 Office Setup program:

It didn't work 100 percent. I uninstalled Office 2007, reinstalled Office
2000 then used the custom method of installing Office 2007 as suggested in
article 925618. After this procedure most of Office 200 was still in the
Program Files.

However I did find another article that suggested in the Office 2003
Editions Resource Kit there was a wizard to erase previous versions of
Office, which worked.

Now I have Office 2000 renoved from the Program Files and Office 2007
installed and working.

There is one residual problem: when I start up Outlook 2007 I get a notice
thet Office 2000 needs to be reinstalled - which I cancel. I suspect there
is still something in the Registry left over from Office 2000 that initiates
the process to install Office 2000. I'd like to get rid of it but I'm unsure
of how to go about this.

Perhaps the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility will help. Create a System Restore point first before trying that tool.
