Elderly Packard Bell users?

Had you already opened case and found it abnormal?
Often the front bezel (plastic face plate) is removed to expose a
screw or two holding a bay that slides out along rails stamped
into the metal sides/bottom. First check for access to these
screws on the inside of case.

Typically drive and bay holding it, come out together then drive
can be removed from bay.

OK, Elderly drive got out by elderly rocket scientist.. Now I want to
destroy it. Suggestion?. Maybe another post for that.

May be near dead anyway, throw it at the pavement a couple times
and hit the circuit board with a hammer... more elaborate
destruction may be fun but unlikely to be necessary.

I whacked the circuit board and the exposed drive with a hammer and the
curved end of a crowbar. Looks now to be of no interest to anyone.
