Remove an Offline Server in AD

We need to remove a Windows 2000 domain controler from the AD cause a
hardware failure. We are in mixe mode and the online DC has fsmo roles and
GC. Is it necessary to remove it or I can leave it ?

If the DC will never be brought back online you can follow the procedure in
this article to remove all traces of it from AD.
