Remote Procedure Call (RPC) terminated unexpectantly.

My laptop keeps shutting down saying that the Remote
Procedure Call (RPC) process terminated unexpectantly. It
then says that NT Authority\System is shutting down the
system and counts down 1 minute. I'm running Windows XP
Home.

I would really appreciate any feedback on what is causing
this?

Should I re-install XP Home? If so, will I lose any data
on the laptop?

Thanks!

I was trying to remotely help a friend out with this issue today. Her
system keeps rebooting before she can make any progress. It only happens
when she opens IE though or doesn't go in with safe mode. The TFTP files
were in her startup which she had time to delete and we deleted several
other files that were related to the virus but she can't get all of them.

I tried to copy a file to her computer after she created a user account for
me. She doesn't have a firewall so I tried to run:
net use j: \\xx.xx.xx.xxx password /user:boe but I keep getting a 53 error.
Is there a step I'm forgetting to map a network drive?

To stop the reboots: Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. Scroll down
to Remote Procedure Call (RPC)/Logon/First Failure/Restart the Service.

Then close Windows Explorer, End Process in the Task Manager for
msblast.exe, run the edit on line 257 then run the patch listed below it:
