"Remote Procedure Call" error message

My Sony VAIO loads windows and gets me to the Logon screen, where I can choose between the four users I previously set up. No matter which one I choose, as soon as the desktop comes on and McAfee loads, the followng message pops up: The system is shutting down...this shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM." Inside another window the following message also appears: "Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly." I've tried a Restore, no luck. I can't logon. HELP

You have the Blaster worm.

To stop the shutdown process
Start - Run - type cmd
in the command line type shutdown -a

Go here and follow instructions:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/blaster.htm

You need to download and install all MS Critical Patches and Updates.

Then, to keep your computer safe, you need the following:

A good Anti-Virus scanner

A good firewall like Zone Alarm or the built in XP firewall
ZoneAlarm is available free at:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

Ad-Aware 6.0 - for removing spyware

Spybot Search & Destroy - for removing spyware
http://www.safer-networking.org/

CWShredder - gets rid of page hijackers
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

Google Toolbar - for blocking popups

Before running the Spybot and Ad-Aware, delete temporary internet files
and internet history.

Often posted here, in answer to this question...

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
installed the KB824146 Hotfix, without having first installed an
antivirus application with current virus definition files, and before
enabling a firewall, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.
