I am trying to access to my homepc with laptop at library.
Click START>REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION> it opens field computer name:
I typed in the field owner-18adad.37d. No connection.

Then type in 68.45.29.XXXX still no connection.
I want to brief abit about my home comcast network. It has CABLE box with
router built in with VIDEO phone and PC.My laptop is INSPIRON 6000 with
Windows XP Home Edition. It says it has built in REMOTE DESKTOP built in.

Is there a way to make connection possible? allan

Windows XP Home Edition cannot be a Remote Desktop host, it can only be
a client, it can remote desktop into other computers but others cannot
remmote desktop into it. You will have to upgrade to the Professional
version or you will have to rely on other third party solutions.

It's your home pc that needs to be XP Pro, if it's XP Home it cannot
accept incoming Remote Desktop connections, it cannot be the host, only
a client. Windows XP Pro can be accessed by Windows XP Home, XP Home
has the client portion of Remote Desktop already included, it lacks the
host portion of the package. Windows 95, Windows 98 and 98 Second
Edition, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000 can also access XP
Pro machines as long as they have the necessary client software
installed, the client can be downloaded at the Microsoft site.

If your home pc has Windows XP Professional then what you need to do is
open port 3389 in your router, Remote Desktop uses this port to
communicate. Opening ports in the router is also known as port
forwarding, see here for more information: http://www.portforward.com/
But that is for naught if your home pc is not XP Pro.

I have a copy of windowsxp Professional for my pc. Will it work if
installed
on my laptop?
<snip>
It quite likely will, but you should realize that the XP Pro CD will not
have the chipset drivers. Your best bet would be to contact the manufacture
to obtain a CD for your PC which has these things ready for installation.
Get this CD before you proceed because you might not be able to connect the
laptop to the internet without the correct driver.

And, there may be other software that you need to have on hand...

Thank you for the replies. I will see what I can do.

I had been aware that Windows XP PRO supports setting up home website that
Home Edition lacks. Now Home Edition lacks Remote Desktop, too. It only has
Remote Assistance (client). XP PRO is about to have everything like Windows
2000. Home Edition does not have those features that I need.

I will download on laptop tomorrow at library on wifi.
The home PC is online with internet as it has always been.
I had checked SYSTEM>REMOTE tab and found that there is no check mark next to
"Allow users to connect remote to this home pc". It was checked before. I
might forgot to click APPLY.
I will try this and that tomorrow.

Have a look at Teamviewer ?
No; not yet. I want to try Tight VCN, first. TightVCN has been installed as
viewer on laptop at library. I realize that I need to do
the same at home pc and configure it to Server. I have not yet installed at
home.

If everything dont turn out in my favorafter 2 days, then TeamViewer.
