remote desktop

I can use remote desktop from our LAN but what can I do when I am across
country & able to log on to an ip? We are not on a domain & looks like
knowing the ip address of the pc is the only other way!

You can use a dynamic name service like No-IP.com, or something similar, to
map a fully qualified domain name to the IP your ISP assigns. You would need
to forward/open TCP Port 3389 through any firewall/router you might have
between the PC and the public internet.
