If you and the client are both behind firewall/NAT/router devices then look at this KB article for
an explanation of what may or may not be supported...

One solution, if you can't get Messenger to work, is to have the client setup an account with one of
the dynamic naming services that map a fully qualified domain name to the IP. In my case I use a
FREE service from No-IP.com. The No-IP.com software runs on one of my XP Pro boxes and on a time
schedule basis contacts the No-IP.com servers. The No-IP.com servers then know what your IP is and
maps that to a fully qualified domain name. That information is then propagated over the public
internet. You could then call the client PC using the fully qualified domain name. It works very
well for me when I call my home network using Remote Desktop or a PPTP VPN link.

Others, some free and some $$$$...

You could then have your client generate the invitation file with a 99 day expiration time and mail
it to you. Once you get the invitation file, simply modify the RCTICKET field in the file using the
dynamic naming service fully qualified domain name and save it (with a short cut on your desktop) on
your PC. You could then simply click the short cut when you need to access the client PC. This page
illustrates how to modify RA so you can have a 99 day expiration period. This is done on the client
PC in your case.

I need to help somebody using messenger remote assistance.
my client is using a DSL router, hardware is not a problem here.
The only way I can make remote assistance works, is generating a file with HELP and SUPPORT and send it to me by email.
But, the client needs to edit the file and change the private IP to the public IP, and she can't
do that. I did it for her to make it work.
So, What I really need is to make remote assistance work with messenger.
If she click on "ask for remote assistance" in messenger, nothing happens, no error messasges, just nothing happens.
I uninstalled and reinstalled msn messenger and messenger for windows in her computer with the
latest versions, and the problem continues.
