Remote Desktop, cannot browse internet

If I connect to one of my computers on my home network I am able to browse my
network, but cannot browse internet. I know its connected to internet
because functions like time sync and AV updates are occuring. There is no
probelm browsing internet if I access the PC locally.

What I see in he status area are "Looking for website.com" followed by
"connecting to ###.###.###.###" then it freezes.

Is there anyone who has had this porbelm and resolved it?

If you connect to your remote desktop through VPN this is expected behaviour.
When you establish a VPN connection the traffic that goes through the network adapter is redirected through the VPN to the remote server.
So when you open IE, the request is sent over to the default gateway on the remote server. If you are running a firewall such as ISA and you are not autheticated you may be denied access to the Internet.
Try installing ISA Firewall client on the client side and enable it whenever you connect via VPN.
