Windows XP Remote Deskto Problems

I have a computer at work that I connect fine with Remote desktop to with one computer, but with my new computer it looks like it is connected and I get the blue background with the computername in the bar at the top but the login screen where I enter my username, password and domain never shows up. After a while it says I have been disconnected because I didn't log in after a certain amount of time. can anyone help help me? there is no firwall on and both computers are using the same router and cable modem to get to the internet. but one works fine and one doesn't.
